Ana-Grams
You can blame Luke Brattoni, or maybe page 48 of Puzzled, as today’s Storm will prove that less is more. You challenge is to create a two-worded cryptic clue relying on the anagram formula. Not easy when you consider you need to pack three elements: definition, signpost and fodder. To give you a taste:
Shipwreck joints = HIPS
Thicker offenders = DENSER
Windcheater measure = HECTARE
Best if we all present our clues in that fashion. Yes, I know that steals a chance for us to solve your creation, but for reasons of universal admiration – not to mention the judging and the admin – if you could post both your clue and your answer.
Avoid hyphens if you can – as these open the way to blurring the two-word rule. But names and slang and all the rest: go for it.
Not sure how I’ll judge this Storm – shortest clue? Longest answer? Sleekest surface sense? All these categories carry weight, though a deluxe shortlist will keep us all sated. And please, help enrich a likely flood by sending us the cream among your drafts. Something says this will be a feast of fine stuff, and we may need to control the influx.
Last, all Stormers should feel welcome to suggest any deft tweaks to the ideas of others, if there’s the chance of making a good clue spectacular. Here at DA Central, we’re all about the us in bodacious. So get condensing. And may the brevity begin. Deadline is cocktail hour, Thursday.

A one-word definition for Ms Seles would be a better fit than her name but "ex-sportswoman" doesn't do it for me.

Maybe "Spineless stabbee" but I'm sure someone can do better.

Obviously there's no exact rule for anagrinds. But what is the rule of thumb? From memory the book on cryptics I read 2 decades ago said an indicator shows something like disorder/reordering (e.g. new)/ something's wrong/unusual (e.g. mad, bad, sad, disappointing, camp, odd) or something about letters or characters, 'off' or 'out'.
I couldnt have 'actors','return' or 'pie' and 'mis-','re-' and 'free' are iffy. But it's all so subjective and veering into aesthetics territory. An official 'Cryptic Solvers of the World' rule would be good but (over)restrictive.
Arrrgh. There is no solution. Like a good writer getting their message across you'd hope the same with the setter's anagrinds. Anyway I go by the 'rule' above

Liking your work, Sam. Though does rot = off? Maybe not. How about:
Bilge torrent (3)
Tripartite wardrobe is excellent, and sausage roll [while ineligible for being a 3-worder] is too good to omit submitting.
As for you, dg - a torrent to transcend bilge. Some modern wonders amid your lists. I'm looking forward to assaying all posts.
As for anaginds [anagram-indicators], it is a subjective area. I've collected some fishy samples over the year, and will put them in a new post next week or so.

A challenge: devise a clue where the second word, within it, contains a removal indicator. I've just wasted half an hour failing at this, but am sure someone will be up to it. For example: if "Concertndy" was a word (!), then "Concertndy coffin" could clue "trendy" via "Con" (mix) CERTNDY with "C off", meaning "in".
Mauve — 18 November at 06:18PM
I've just wasted half an hour trying to understand your example JT - in a lovely brain-nourishing way of course!
