DL or no DL? [BB340]
To abbreviate game-show host Andrew O'Keefe: DL or no DL, that is the question. One answer in each couple (either first or second) will carry DL. Drop it and you’ll make the other answer. Trip/enigma = RIDE/RIDDLE.
By the same token, One-time pop diva/gaucho extra, would be SADE/SADDLE. Crack the rest?
- Alas/utter
- Fruit/hawker
- Heal/turn
- Lanky/thorny
- Ray/chaos
- Patchy pattern/sea
- Bard censor/arbour
- Gentile/sacred
- Louse/cheat
So what pairing did we miss?
SOLUTION NEXT WEEK
BB339 SOLUTION: Hopper, Weaver, Conner, Rodman (and Waterman), Quaid, Walter, Lillee, Leary

Yes, but where's Peter Pascoe??!
Shark Biscuit — 11 December at 06:08AM
10. Stick/light
Geoff Bailey — 11 December at 06:45AM
So the single 'n' Denis was acceptable after all (Denis Leary)... makes the omission of Denis Thatcher a little more surprising. Was he considered too obvious?
Some more grist for the mill:
11. Dating/young plant
12. Cattle/light
13. Checked/exceeded safety limits
14. Cheese/harness
15. Cipher/pamper
16. Cunning/disorderly
17. More rational/Jack or Jill
Shark Biscuit — 11 December at 06:54AM
@Denis Thatcher: "i have been profoundly misled." ;)
Shark Biscuit — 11 December at 07:22AM
18. Hamlet/bounce
SK — 11 December at 08:12AM
19. Pet with no visa?
DA2 — 11 December at 08:27AM
Just look at us lot nowadays. Who needs to solve a clue if you can make your own?! I love it.
10 cane/candle
11 seeing/seedling (neat)
14 Brie/bridle
15 code/coddle
18 Dane/dandle
There's a dent. Is a pet with no visa a canardly canary?!
DA2 — 11 December at 08:37AM
Got it SK! A cardless caress. Trixy...
Geoff Bailey — 11 December at 10:40AM
*chuckles* Well, I have solved yours too, DA. Took me a while to realise that the DL word was sometimes first. :)
Love the idea of a canardly canary -- sounds like a variant of the ugly duckling!
Geoff Bailey — 14 December at 09:46AM
Just filling in the ones of mine that weren't solved above:
12. kine/kindle
13. reined/redlined
16. wily/wildly (in retrospect, 'disorderly' is not a proper match -- apologies!)
and with reference to a recent film that I have no intention of seeing, ever:
17. saner/Sandler
DM — 14 December at 11:35AM
You're all such earlybirds! I'm missing a couple of the original clues still so apologies if I accidentally duplicate:
20. that's lazy
21. wee bite
22. crap call
23. food at random
24. brain connection
25. confuse drink
26. well-groomed winks
DM — 14 December at 01:37PM
Hm, apparently I'm not just a late starter, but days late on this one.
