Running Hot & Cold [BB314]
Can you replace X and Y with the correct opposites, seeing each pair below become two common phrases? X mouth/Y spot, say, equals LOUD mouth/SOFT spot. In the same vein, X potato/Y turkey leads to HOT/COLD. Can you tap the logic behind these other nine?
- X damp/Y star
- X rope/Y cannon
- X spender/Y fortune
- X piece/Y driver
- X control/Y row
- X smoking/Y service
- X hat/Y street
- X catcher/Y TV
- X stone/Y bone
Can you make your own pair to stump us?
SOLUTION NEXT WEEK BB313 SOLUTION: Father Ted, Porridge, Absolutely Fabulous, Last of the Summer Wine, Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Drop the Dead Donkey, Yes Minister, Open All Hours, ’allo ’allo, The Young Ones, League of Gentlemen

No cigar, DC. (The clue lies in my previous fixation in this forum, if you need a major clue.)

That's a gem, Nib. Very clever.
As for cracking One Wheel's offerings, or any DIY offerings, let's not be coy. The forum encourages all comers to blab solutions for homegrown variations. Keeps things simpler, that way.
38 Up/down?
41 Climbing/falling [nice one]
43 Bald/hairy? [just have to ask]
RK — 14 June at 10:01AM
I thought 38 was night/day
DC — 14 June at 10:08AM
Mauve's answer to my 17 wasn't the one I was thinking of, though is quite neat.
I've realised my answer to 27 relies on a physics term, which may or may not be kosher. It made sense at the time.
