Nice one Bon. That's a cracker.
Yo! Do I lick hand? Nod twice strangely. You got it. (11)

Sorry, but somebody has to do it...
Okay, no Chili Peppers...but digs boogie!

Nail problem? Cut shorter after ring interrupted loop score on the radio
Boniface — 02 May at 10:18AM
@RV Thanks. Although (a) spoon nail and hook nail are slightly different (albeit related) conditions and (b) Ximeneans would probably not like the way I added ICY to the fodder. Let's see what DA and others reckon.
RK — 02 May at 10:27AM
I look up Chapter One in any novel and nail problem
DC — 02 May at 10:35AM
A first attempt, which probably falls afoul of the pinata principle, if nothing else.
Hollow victory: I only dented mint
AK — 02 May at 10:53AM
I wish it were pronounced "coil 'n' eat ya". So many snake possibilities.
RK — 02 May at 04:23PM
I hack about without working in greasy spoons for tips
DC — 02 May at 04:36PM
@RV: excellent.
(I scrub out my attempt at 'I hack'. Also the whole think about Koch covering irony, changing hands...)
SK — 02 May at 04:54PM
That's beautiful RK. Great surface and a killer sly def.
Boniface — 02 May at 05:01PM
Yair, nice SK. Tough, but good read.

With curved claws, Kong starts on the Big Apple (spanning three states).

Having dumped cliche, I hail Clooney chick-flick: "Anaemics' nail dip"
RV — 02 May at 10:08PM
I'm enjoying everyone's clues. I'd like to join the RK clue fan club (greasy spoon). That's a ripper. I also enjoyed JPR and SK's well concealed anagrinds in Chili Peppers and chick-flick. very nice. and DC gave me a new word, chia=mint. hadn't heard that one. DC, what is the pinata principle? is it something to do with definitely getting your kid's birthday party on funniest home videos?
DC — 02 May at 11:22PM
The pinata principle says that your clue can't be so hard that no-one can break it.
As for whether mint is a valid clue for chia, I couldn't really say for sure.

Thanks everyone. You're too kind. Once I saw oily and spoon I just had to give it a go. Perhaps DA's mention of his post-Logies fry-up also contributed (though I'm sure his local eatery is very upmarket). Alas, such a definition coupled with a little-known word means it could never make it as a 'real' clue. But that's the nature of the WoW beast I guess.
DA — 03 May at 09:15AM
Let me join the chorus. A stunning clue, RK, quite the wow in fact. Eerie too, as the local caff is pretty high on transfats, which my body craved. (You need to walk up the hill for the alfalfa garnishes.)
Overall a great WoW session, and how I'd always hoped this blog would operate, where the volume of quality regulars allows for any forum to run separate from the host's hangover. (And thanks, feeling much better today. Appreciate you asking.)
JPR — 03 May at 09:34AM
We could drink from our fingernails -- look, chai in yours (losing sour mix)
JPR — 03 May at 09:55AM
The nails are inverted, a holy icon I improve after maker's heart
SK — 03 May at 11:15AM
Who would have thought that such a gnarly WOW could inspire so many good ideas?
...and I apologise for the disgusting definition in my offering, but given the wordplay theme the def just seemed to pick itself.
Oops, sorry...again...
JPR — 03 May at 11:38AM
Oho! Lara Bingle loses large B and mixes it with icky inverted talons
JPR — 03 May at 02:52PM
Withnail like Spooner? Ring an oily hicko
RK — 03 May at 03:11PM
DA's logie?
Locked away until DA's win tonight (5,7)
RK — 03 May at 03:12PM
Oops that's in the wrong spot. I'll repost!
