Brand New Storm

12 February, 2013

New words, new clues – and a nostalgic prize to win. This week we conjure clues for the ten new words listed in our poll, each one a category winner in the Macquarie’s Word of 2012. (If you haven’t voted already, check out the poll in the right margin.)

Pick a First World problem as an alias, and dream up clues for two mandatory terms – FIRST WORLD PROBLEM and SILO MENTALITY. Plus one wildcard from the other eight.

As per the poll, these include WINE FLU, GREEN TAPE, DIABESTIY and more. Try all terms, if you like, but in the end please enter those three clues before Thursday 9pm, and then let’s vote 2/1 for each mandatory, and 3/2/1 for wildcard section by Friday 6pm.

The highest overall scorer wins the old Fairfax collection: 75 Cryptic Crosswords Volume 2, which includes 25 classic DAs. Please note, in all cases, include a definition element. And second, in your own final trio, include the clue’s mechanics.

So, to warm you up:

MARNGROOK: Strong-arm bully wiped out good man, getting fine in Aussie game

GREEN TAPE: Eco-hurdle for Spooner’s young adult fruit

Good luck all players. And don’t blame wine flu for underperforming.
