Two quickies. The first is a nudge about that media debate, the one where I swung cudgels against Julian Burnside and Kate Burridge over which medium (newspapers, web or telly) exerted the greatest influence on language.
Originally the Big Ideas show was slotted for a few weeks back, but then the QANTAS hoop-la derailed the scheduling. So now this Sunday (1pm, ABC 24) is your chance to see the stoush in colour, or try here after the telecast window to see the event as a podcast.
Second thing: a bit of fun. Some snide observers have dubbed Junior Masterchef as Tots with Pots, which I kinda like. I’ve also been warming to the challenge of cooking up new ‘Rhyme With Rhyme’ phrases to typify other shows, books, subcultures, etc.
So far my list goes like this:
Wipeout: Pools with Fools
Footy Show: Blokes with Jokes
Quick crosswords: Puzzles with Muzzles
Texas Hold ‘Em: Diehards with Cards
Fat cats: Jerks with Perks
Snigger: LOL with vitriol
Bogans: Ockers with Moccas
Care to add to the whimsy? Together we can conjure a List with Grist.
