Homophonies

16 October, 2012

Time to take a break from our hot-and-heavy clueing this week, and trying our hand (or ear) at some homophones. Our challenge is to see who can create the loudest belly laugh with a audio tweak, and sharp definition. Just swap any word in a title or phrase for its audio twin, and provide a new meaning for the variant. Some examples:

SAVED BY THE BELLE – Rapunzel repays the favour
THE ION LADY – Madame Curie biopic
HYDE & SIKH – alter ego on the run in Agra

Let’s dabble in three categories:

(1) a phrase; (2) a name or title (book, person, movie); (3) a double (where a name, title or phrase entails TWO homophones).

To play, chose a homophonic alias – not to be confused with homophobic, such as Frere Denial. And then for the next few days, toss some whims about the forum. And before Thursday 9pm, submit your pick for each category.

To simplify the tally on Friday, let’s just vote with 2/1 for each category using the DAmail, and that way we shall see who’s our eminent grease (or Rapunsel) of audio.

STOP PRESS: DUE TO THIS STORM’S MILD RESPONSE, NO VOTING WILL BE OCCUR ON FRIDAY. NO PENALTY – NO FOWL. THANKS FOR THE LAUGHS ALREADY – AND LET’S REVEL NEXT WEEK.
