Secret Subsets
28 February, 2012
Plant POPLAR and CHERRY beside each other, and you create a third tree on the inside, namely LARCH. In the same way two animals – WAPITI/GERBIL – allow TIGER to hunch down in ambush. Or in less spectacular fashion, NSW can sidle with ACT to envelop WA.
A simple game, but who can achieve the grandest feat? Or choose the freshest topic to apply to the pairing? ZOLA/MISHIMA (hiding AMIS) seems to have an obvious novelist theme. But maybe you can take a more lateral approach, such as coomon allergens, EGGS/ALMONDS (SALMON), or MOGUL/AGGRO (GULAG) = office terms. Or go for the cheap gags, such as MDX/LVII (XLV).
Lateral, oblique – whatever your direction, you need to hide a ‘team-mate’ on the inside. Deadline is sundown Thursday. Get subset, get going.
