Suffixorama
19 September, 2013
Word-watcher Neil Whitman has noted the rise & rise of suffixes in modern slang, from the ATI of glitterati, to the ZILLA of bridezilla. Check out his A-to-Z here, a breakneck index leading you past the -gates, the -geddons, and the -liciouses. It’s a fine list, though I reckon we can add a few omissions.
What about the GANGER we see in Googleganger? Or the VEGAS of Brisvegas? The THON we get footython? The PORN of gastroporn? The EXIA of bleachorexia, that Brisvegan obsession to keep your teeth whitened.
With a Wordplay column in mind, feel free to add to the suffix fetish of modern slang. Be great if we can make a rival list to double the Whitman alphabet, adding 20+ of our own nominees.
